Richard Alley – Communicating Science With Anything That Works

AGU 2014 Tidbits – Anecdotes And Stories From The Front Lines Of Science

During the AGU Fall Meeting I had the honor of working with Peter Sinclair of Climate Denial Crock of the Week and John Cook of Skeptical Science, interviewing an amazing line-up of scientists and science communicators. I’m floored by who we interviewed and could have a chat with. Everyone brought their A game which gave us some incredible footage.

Video description

Richard Alley is an American geologist and Evan Pugh Professor of Geosciences at Pennsylvania State University. Well respected in his field and a great science communicator. Every time he speaks you know he enjoys his work and loves to share his love for it.

This has made him a true asset during hearings with his good and fun to listen explanations. One of the more famous moments was Alley explaining Milankovitch cycles to Dana Rohrbacher:

In this clip Alley looks back at this moment and why he communicates the science in the way that he does.
