Goodbye My Friend

Ventures Into Scepticism

Real Sceptic has its origins as a companion site for the videos produced by Collin Maessen. The site has progressed beyond this original purpose and now predominantly includes articles that are independent of the content released on YouTube. However this original content is still an important part of the site.

This page serves as an archive for videos produced and released on YouTube. You can find full transcripts, source listing and used media files for the videos. We are currently in the process of transcribing all the audio.

Please note that the first nine videos are of a substantial lower quality than videos that were produced after these. As these first nine videos were as much, and in some case more, about learning to edit videos and learning how to tell a story in sound and images.

Update 1
==

The past few days I've been in contact with Rhysz family and close ones. They reached out to me to send a message to his online friends.

They have been touched by all the expressions of grief and support after Rhysz sudden death. To recognise the big part his online friends played in his life the family has started a memorial website:
https://sites.google.com/site/berendinmemoriambrouwer/

This will give his online friends the possibility to say their goodbyes. Everyone can send in their stories, quotes, pictures and videos for inclusion on the site. You can send in your material via Gmail or YouTube:
berend.inmemoriam@gmail.com
http://www.youtube.com/user/CollinMaessen

To further give his online friends the ability to say their goodbyes the family intends to stream the service. However at this time it is not known if they will be able to do so, please keep an eye on the website for updates on this. If I hear something I will spread it as soon as possible.

On Monday a friend contacted me, saying she couldn't reach one of my friends any more. I started asking around if anybody had heard from him. But nobody had talked to him recently. It spurred me to reach out to him via chat, texting and I even left a voice message.

When I hadn't heard from him the next day I really started to worry, it was just to atypical. I called the police to ask if they could visit him to see if he was fine. Within hours, when I just had gone to bed, the doorbell rang. It was the police with the news that they had found him dead in his apartment. He died from natural causes and was just 33 years old.

The past 24 hours have been insane. From helping the police contact his family to telling friends the news. I'm still processing all this, it's just to surreal.

Rhysz, you will be missed.
